Sameer was initiated into music by his grandmother Smt. Shantabai Kotasthane. At the tender age of six, Sameer delighted an audience of over 5000 at a religious place (Shegaon) with the rendition of devotional songs. Sameer began classical music training under the guidance of Smt. Sangeeta Pandharpurkar and Pt. T.D. Janorikar of the Bhendibazaar Gharana.

Sameer's parents played a pivotal role throughout his early years in classical music. They took him to the right Gurus at the right time, sought performance opportunities throughout India, and constantly encouraged him and his brother, Sachin through their daily Riyaaz (At six years, Sachin was initiated into tabla). Without his parents and brother's constant support, Sameer would not have come far in music.

Sameer appeared on television and radio on programs such as Swar-Sandhyaa, Balodyaan and Bhakti Bhaav. He enthralled thousands of music connoisseurs with classical music programs in Pune, Mumbai, Aurangabad, Wai and Indore. For his outstanding contribution in music at such a young age, 13-year old Sameer was publicly felicitated by the Honorable Mayor Shri Prabhakar Sathe.

A life-defining moment for Sameer was when he began rigorous training in 1997 under the guidance of Pt. Vijay Koparkar, a leading disciple of Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande and Pt. Jitendra Abhisheki. Pt. Koparkar developed Sameer into a brilliant singer of classical and semi-classical forms of music such as khayal, tarana, tappa and thumri. Pt. Korparkar's music had the influence of various Gharanas and Sameer's peformances reflect a pleasant blend of the same. He continues to receive guidance from Dr. Ram Deshpande.
